El Loco « ZZ Top

Groovy stuff from ZZ Top on this cool 1981 release. There sure are alot of lyrics pertaining to partying and romance(haha), all set to trademark blues beats. There are many other better known tunes by this band, but this is a fun cassette to slap on next time you are partying on the patio. Turn it way up and smile.

Greatest Hits « Fleetwood Mac

You really couldn't ask for a more fully loaded greatest hits cassette than what this 1988 release lays down. Just name your fav Mac tune, and chances are good it will be found on this compilation. Their classic melodies and smooth beats make it perfect for your soft rockin' needs. Grade A Top 40 all the way.

Dudes (soundtrack) « Various Artists

A soundtrack for an obscure film from the 80's that features a country punk rock metal theme...why not?! I like the mix of artists on this tape, with tunes from bands such as Jane's Addiction, Megadeth, Keel and W.A.S.P. Sure, you may find a better soundtrack, but this one's kinda interesting and worth a listen.

TYR « Black Sabbath

If you've never experienced this line-up, you may or may not dig this cassette. Tony Martin has a great voice, but he's kinda like a poor man's Dio. The lyrics are mystical, but there aren't enough classic riffs. It's stretching it to call this a Black Sabbath album with only one original member, but some fans swear by it.

OU812 « Van Halen

Man, can Eddie Van Halen lay down chunky riffs and cool guitar solos. The guitar god and his goodtime band sure know how to rock out, and this cassette's meant to be played loud. I kinda like Sammy Hagar's voice, but I can see how Roth fans might not enjoy this album as much. Eddie's guitar steals the show.

Their Greatest Hits (1971-1975) « Eagles

With the Eagle's great vocals and a peaceful easy feeling, this collection of hits is in a class by itself. It makes you want to put the top down and cruise outta town on a sunny day. Sure, there are many other dynamite tunes missing from this album, but you can't please everyone. Country rock kings.

Dead Letter Office « R.E.M.

This cassette is kinda neat. It's just a hodgepodge of rare tracks and B-sides from R.E.M. singles that haven't been overplayed on the radio. You just gotta love when a band covers both Aerosmith and The Velvet Underground on the same album. While there are a few tracks that do fall flat, overall it is pretty cool.

Vivid « Living Colour

The unique sound of this cassette is due to the New York band's blend of musical styles. The guitar is the star and Living Colour really packed some funky soul into their debut album. The lyrics sure don't pull any punches tackling social problems, and even Chuck D & Flavor Flav guest star on one of the tunes.

Uh-Huh « John Cougar Mellencamp

This cassette makes me long for a big piece of apple pie. It's just a red-blooded, American rock classic that begs to be played loud in the tape deck of your pickup truck or muscle car. John Cougar Mellencamp is the workingman's singer, and you definitely get the impression he's singing from the heart. Crank it up.

Music For The Masses « Depeche Mode

This cassette went perfectly with my rainy bus ride to work today. Depeche Mode sure can create a great blend of haunting, trance producing synthpop. While this tape may be on the darker side for some folks, you can't help but enjoy the mood the singer evokes. If you're feeling a bit melancholy, this is for you.

The Ultra-Violence « Death Angel

All aboard the thrash express! This cassette chugs along full speed ahead, and rocks hard from start to finish. While the singer might not be everyone's cup of tea, his voice does blend pretty nicely with their thrash metal sound. For a debut album, it doesn't get much better than this. Be sure to turn the volume up.

The Singles « Honeymoon Suite

If you're in the mood for radio friendly rock from the 80's, boy are you in luck. As a Canadian, these tunes bring back memories of summer and easy living. I suppose this compilation cassette is kinda sappy, but deep down, aren't we all? I'd definitely rewind this tape the next time I need some fun in the sun.

Coda « Led Zeppelin

Considering this was the mighty Zep's swan song, you'd expect a bigger finish. While this cassette does indeed rock, it seems a bit weak compared to their earlier stuff. Bonzo had departed two years prior to this 1982 release, so these tracks were definitely taken from the vault. Worth rewinding.

1,039/Smoothed Out Slappy Hours « Green Day

Wow, this cassette is cram-packed with their first album and two EP's. I usually like my punk a tad bit punkier, but Green Day sure play some tight pop punk on this 1991 release. Some of the songs kinda sound the same, but hey, if you do it well, do it to death! Next time I run out of coffee, I'll just rewind this.

Greatest Hits « Nazareth

I'm drinkin' sweet champagne got the headphones up high! This cassette from 1975 is an awesome 12 song collection from Nazareth and a perfect soundtrack for mowing the lawn or while enjoying a cold one. I would be rewinding this one if it didn't just self-destruct in my tape player due to use and abuse. Bummer man...

Pet Sounds « The Beach Boys

Brian Wilson must have been pretty messed up when he wrote this stuff. If you're longing for Surfin' USA, then this cassette will give you a creepy feeling. It was the mid sixties, and many bands were starting to change their sound. There are some classic tunes on this tape, so it's definitely worth a second listen.

Just Say Ozzy « Ozzy Osbourne

Just say awesome! This rockin' cassette features Ozzy backed by Geezer Butler, Zakk Wylde and drummer Randy Castillo(RIP). If you enjoyed No Rest For The Wicked, then you'll dig this live set from 1989. Every single tune sounds great live and they aren't rushed along. I'll definitely be rewinding this 30 minute classic.

Frehley's Comet « Ace Frehley

I really had high hopes for this cassette. The cover is kinda cool and it's Mr. Ace Frehley we're talking about after all. There were some hot licks here and there, and some of the lyrics actually made me laugh out loud. With a few exceptions, it's pretty cheesy rock'n'roll, so I don't think I'll be rewinding this.

Fleetwood Mac « Fleetwood Mac

This is the inaugural cassette chosen from the milk crate o' tapes. As soon as I slid this baby into my trusty Walkman, I knew it was gonna be a laid back day. Just a goodtime, soft rock classic that'll put the pep in your step. Hey, even if it's not 1975, at least your tape machine can still groove like it is.
